Penn State Men's Gymnastics is entering a new era of leadership after the head coach, who helped produce 14 individual national champions, including Mark Sohn, officially made an exit from Penn State.

After 35 years as head coach and 45 years total with Penn State Athletics, Randy Jepson’s contract will not be renewed, and Associate Head Coach Tony Beck will assume the role effective immediately.

The vice president for Intercollegiate Athletics, Pat Kraft, expressed his deep gratitude for Randy's contribution following the announcement of the leadership change.

“Randy's contributions to Penn State Athletics and college gymnastics are immeasurable,” said Kraft.

Kraft continued expressing his appreciation, saying, “We are incredibly proud of what he has accomplished here at Penn State and are forever grateful for his dedication, passion and unwavering commitment to this university.”

Wishing Jepson on his departure, Kraft said, “We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavours.”

With the new change in leadership role, Randy Jepson showed professional grace despite the sudden end to his tenure and endorsed the university's decision to choose Tony as his successor at Penn.

"I fully endorse Pat’s choice of Tony as the next head coach here at Penn State,” Jepson said. He added further, saying,”He will do an incredible job.”

While appreciating his successor Tony Beck, Jepson reflected on his 45 years as a Nittany Lion and viewed the departure not as a bittersweet moment but as a profound journey filled with warmth from the people who trusted him throughout his time at Penn.

Jepson added in his departing message, "I am so grateful to student-athletes for trusting me to lead them all these years, grateful to their families for trusting me with their sons.”

Jepson has guided the Nittany Lions through three NCAA Championships and was the only Penn State coach besides legendary Gene Wettstone to win the team national title.

He has compiled nearly 450 career victories and 139 NCAA All-Americans honorees during his time in Happy Valley. Along with competitive success, he prioritised academics and set a program record of 3.56 average in semester GPA.

As the Jepson legacy of 45 years comes to an end, the next chapter of the Nittany Lions with Tony Beck is starting immediately to help guide them for their future endeavours.

Showing absolute confidence with the new leadership, Pat Kraft announced the new promotion of former Associate coach Tony Beck as the new head coach of the program.

“It is an incredible honour to be named the head coach of the Penn State men’s gymnastics team,” said Beck. “I understand the standard, pride and expectations that come with representing Penn State Gymnastics,” Beck added.

While expressing his gratitude for his roots, he also acknowledges the impact of his journey with the Nittany Lions and understands the expectations that come with the new role .

Beck has spent the last decade serving as the associate coach since 2023. He guided the Nittany Lions to the 2019 Big Ten Championship. He contributed to the development of two Olympians, Stephen Nedoroscik and Sam Zakutney, who became Penn State’s 21st and 22nd Olympians.

With his past record and deep understanding of Penn State's championship culture, Beck's recruitment will be advantageous for Penn State in the upcoming competitions.
