Gymnastics icon and coach Cecile Landi celebrated her former pupil Madison Kocian's wedding on Sunday, May 24. It was a star-studded event that marked a full-circle moment for Landi as she transitioned from guiding the gymnast to Olympic glory to cheering her down the aisle.
Landi shared a glimpse from Kocian's wedding with Jack Hughes. The coach shared a successful relationship with the gymnast, who, under her guidance, won gold and silver medals in Rio 2016.
On Instagram, Landi posted a picture of herself posing with the newlywed couple and left a caption celebrating them.
"Beautiful weekend to celebrate the beautiful couple," she wrote. "Congratulations Mr & Mrs Hughes."
As reported by Gymnastics Now on X, the wedding was graced by notable athletes, including Jordyn Wieber. The Olympic gold medalist posed with Madison Kocian and Jack Hughes.
The guest list also included Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, and Laurie Hernandez, all sitting together at a table.
Landi's journey with Kocian began almost two decades ago at the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy in the USA. Along with her husband, Laurent Landi, she coached the athlete from 2007 to 2017.
Besides the Olympics, Kocian also earned gold medals at the World Championships in 2014 and 2015. She went on to become a part of the gold-winning "Final Five" squad at the 2016 Olympics, which also included Simone Biles.
In 2017, Cecile and Laurent Landi moved to the World Champions Centre (WCC) in Texas to further coach gymnasts, including Simone Biles.
Landi's Role in Biles’ Journey
The duo redefined the coach-athlete dynamic by providing emotional support along with the technical mastery.
Under Landi's coaching, Biles won a total of five U.S. National All-around titles and a total of fifteen World Championships titles. Their relationship culminated at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Biles walked away with three gold medals.
As a coach, Landi had always followed the athlete-centric approach with her gymnast. During the Tokyo games, she fiercely advocated for Biles' mental well-being. Their mutual trust helped Biles to recover, and she came back stronger in Paris.
Although they're not working together anymore, Biles maintains a good relationship with Landi. The gymnast celebrated the recent appointment of Landi as the head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs.
She shared an Instagram post by UGA gymnastics and voiced her endorsement of Landi's quality.
"If you can dream it, she can do it!!" she wrote.
The partnership between Cecile Landi and Simone Biles ushered in one of the most successful eras for U.S. gymnastics.
