Ahead of her arrival at the Denver gymnastics program this fall, Stefanie Gatin delivered an impressive finish at the Canadian Championships.
Gatin is a four-star senior elite transitioning from Winnipeg, Manitoba, for the upcoming class. Her recent run at the Canadian Championships in Ontario marked her final competitive appearance before she switches to the NCAA.
The two-day event, which included four Olympians, saw Gatin finish ninth in the all-around, a seven-spot improvement from her previous season. Additionally, she earned her second consecutive eighth-place finish on the beam.
Her consistency was also apparent in other apparatuses. She tied 12th on the floor and 16th on bars. However, Gatin was rendered ineligible for the final event after not competing on two different vaults.
Across the two-day event, she scored 13.300 on vault, 11.950 on floor, and 10.700 on bars. Her 12.750 on beam was the fourth-highest score on Day 1. Gatin's total of 48.250 points in all-around was the eighth-highest on the first day, while on the second day, her score was 47.750.
After her impressive performances in the Canada Championship, Gatin is set to make more history. Her arrival in Denver marks the team's first international addition since Spain's Melodie Pulgarin Linero in 2011.
She will be one of the seven newcomers joining Denver's program and part of the nation's eleventh recruiting class. Gatin and other recruits will try to extend the program's legacy further and maintain its streak in the NCAA Regionals.
Revisiting Denver Gymnastics' 2026 Season
The women's gymnastics team at Denver displayed remarkable consistency during the 2026 season. The Pioneers finished 23rd in the National Rankings, with a record of twelve wins and seven losses.
With this finish, Denver has now sustained a top-25 national ranking for 28 consecutive seasons. The program continues to maintain its streak since hiring Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart as the head coach in 1998.
At the NCAA Regionals, they set a record on vault, going 127 meets in a row without a single fall. The discipline remained Denver's strong suit at the event and overall season, with freshman Sevana Kasparian and senior Mila Brusch each scoring 9.825. Meanwhile, sophomore Addie Hewitt finished with a 9.800.
Floor was another highlight, as the team scored an impressive 49.300, its 10th score of 49.300 or above in 2026.
The event also marked Denver's 24th consecutive appearance at the NCAA Regionals. Freshman Shyla Bhatia had a special campaign, as she extended the program's streak of having at least one gymnast at the NCAA Nationals for the 24th time in 25 seasons.
She also won the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year award.
With a batch of first-year athletes joining the team, it will be interesting to see if they can extend the program's legacy in 2027.
