Homewood Gymnast Makes Waves With USA Gymnastics Eastern Championships Third-Place Finish

The fourteen-year-old, Maggie Chapleau, stunned everyone with her impressive finish at one of the most premier postseason competitions. She has earned herself a spot at the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Eastern Championships earlier in May and secured third place on the national podium for the vault event in her age division.

The event, which was held in Savannah, Georgia, brings athletes from the eastern United States to face the rigorous competition. Only those who qualify at the regional level compete in the high-stakes environment.

The third-place finish at the vault with a score of 9.650 was a standout moment in Maggie's career. She additionally showed her all -round consistency and finished fifteenth with a total score of 36.700.

Expressing her excitement about the competition, Maggie posted a video highlight from the competition on her Instagram account.

“Eastern highlights! So grateful for the opportunity to represent region 8! 🤍” she wrote in the caption.

Maggie shared the best moments from the championship and expressed her gratitude to have this opportunity to represent her region at the national stage. She comes from the Mountain Brook Gymnastics program that helped her lay the foundation for her recent success.

After seeing her progress at the USA Gymnastics Development Program, her future participation may now advance to Level 10. But ultimately, whatever she chooses, her recent success on the national stage gives her a solid foundation to move forward.

Another Standout at the USA Gymnastics Eastern Championship

With Maggie Chapleau being one of the major highlights of the competition at the Level 9 championship, Cynthia Gutierrez dominated the season exceptionally well.

Cynthia is a top gymnast from Florida. Her recent performance at the championship helped her capture the top spot in the junior division. She scored an all-around 38.325 to secure the first position at the competition.

Her consistency was top-notch as she earned 9.650 on vault, 9.500 on bars, 9.650 on beam, and 9.6525 on floor. She was placed first in vault and beam, with a tie on bars with Claudia Lasak and Lara Smith. Along with this, she secured second position in floor exercise.

After her impressive performance, Cynthia celebrated her success via an Instagram post highlighting her achievement.

“Honored to be recognized by USA Gymnastics 🇺🇸💙 winning the most individual gold medals of the competition overall with four at the Eastern Championships," she wrote.

In her post, she also extended heartfelt gratitude to other people, saying:

“Grateful for @topgymnasticsmiami, my coaches, and my parents for all the support 🙏So proud to have represented Region 8.”

Earlier this year, she also participated in the 2026 Vegas Cup, where she successfully qualified for the Hopes 11-12 division with a 49.450 score.
