Simone Biles conquered a medical emergency during the 2018 World Championships. The gymnast was rushed to a Doha hospital just hours before competing, and doctors discovered a kidney stone. However, Biles refused to withdraw.
Just two weeks ahead of the tournament, Biles experienced back pains, which turned into excruciating stomach pain. When her mother visited the day before the event, she compelled the Olympic golf medalist to seek medical attention.
The CT scan revealed that Biles had been experiencing intense pain due to a kidney stone. Simone Biles shared her experience and updated her fans directly through tweets. "Nothing like a late-night ER visit less than 24 hrs before world championships," she wrote on X.
However, Bile made it clear in the very first tweet that she had no intention of staying in the hospital. "This kidney stone can wait…doing it for my team! I’ll be gucci girls!" she added.
"Sorry, I have to compete, so I’m leaving, but thanks for letting me know I have a kidney stone and I’ll deal with the pain later!" she wrote in a follow-up tweet.
In fact, Biles even nicknamed the stone the Doha Pearl.
