A consistent presence for California Golden Bears Gymnastics during pressure moments is now gone from the program, as Mya Lauzon officially closes her collegiate chapter after a run marked by key contributions.

Cal Gymnastics' Lauzon is moving on after five seasons. The No. 2-ranked all-around gymnast in the NCAA served as an assistant coach in 2026 following four years as a standout for the Golden Bears.

"What a full circle moment," read Lauzon's Instagram post caption on May 1. "These last couple of months have been so exciting with such an amazing group of people. Truly grateful for one last season cheering on my girls and supporting bear nation!"

Lauzon gave four years to Cal, competing from 2022 to 2025 before stepping into a coaching role right after graduating in 2026. She built a strong record and grew into one of the program’s most decorated athletes.

During Cal’s first season in the ACC, Lauzon became the first Bear ever to win the conference’s Gymnast of the Year award in 2025. She was also among only two gymnasts to secure All-ACC honors in all five disciplines and finished the season with a record-setting six ACC Gymnast of the Week awards.

She landed perfect 10s on both beam and floor, and claimed back-to-back NCAA bronze medals on beam in 2024 and 2025. Lauzon was also part of the Cal team that finished runner-up nationally in 2024, a run that came with multiple All-American honors along the way.

As her journey in Cal concluded, reactions followed across the gymnastics community.

Reactions Pour in After Mya Lauzon’s Decision

Lauzon’s exit drew strong reactions from the gymnastics community. Social media was filled with messages showing how much she meant to Cal Gymnastics.

“Thank you, Mya. After four phenomenal seasons as a gymnast and one as an assistant coach, we are wishing @mya.lauzon the best of luck in her next chapter. Go Bears!” wrote Cal Women's Gymnastics on Instagram. During Cal’s inaugural ACC season in 2025, Lauzon finished the regular season ranked in the top 25 of every event.

“Cal's Mya Lauzon is departing the program after five seasons. She served as an assistant coach in 2026 following four years as a standout for the Golden Bears," Gymnastics Now also shared about her departure in their post. During her senior season, Lauzon led the team with 32 event wins and 53 podium finishes.

“you’re the coolest ever omg,” NCAA Second-Team All-American and Oklahoma gymnast Dani Sievers shared her reaction in Lauzon's post. In her debut season, the Cal gymnast recorded eight scores of 9.90 or above while finishing in the top three five times.

“Meet interviews will miss you legend,” Cal's Elise Byun also shared her feelings on Lauzon’s Instagram post. Lauzon enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, posting 27 top-three finishes while winning 15 individual events.
