Simone Biles’ Comeback Speculation Continues Amid Coaching Changes

Fans of gymnastics are once again speculating about an Olympic comeback after Simone Biles re-shared Georgia Gymnastics’ announcement that Laurent Landi will be joining the program as associate head coach.

The report quickly prompted questions across the sport: could the seven-time Olympic gold medalist still make a return for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, even with her longtime coach taking a major NCAA role?

Amid the growing excitement around the home Olympics, Georgia confirmed the hire of Laurent Landi this week. Biles, who trained with Laurent and Cecile Landi at the World Champions Center in Texas, also shared the news on her social media. That simple repost drew instant attention because of what Biles has said in recent months about a potential return.

The gymnastics superstar previously revealed that Laurent said to her that if she wanted to seriously prepare for LA 2028, she should give him two years. Biles also recently admitted she is still “50-50” on another Olympic run after her successful return at the Paris Games.

One scenario is that Biles could return to competition while training in Athens, Georgia, leading up to the Los Angeles Olympics.

The Bulldogs already have one of the biggest brands in NCAA gymnastics, and Laurent’s addition boosts the profile even more. Gymnastics fans are now envisioning a blend of elite and college gymnastics leading up to 2028.

Another question gaining steam is Jordan Chiles. The Olympic gold medalist has had a long-standing relationship with Biles and the World Champions Center circle.

As Laurent heads to Georgia and Chiles continues her NCAA career at UCLA, some fans are already asking if some of the old WCC Olympic group could potentially reunite in some form before LA 2028.

Some see Laurent's hiring differently. A jump into a big NCAA coaching role could also provide stability away from top-end Olympic preparation.

Coaching an SEC program is a demanding full-time commitment, especially in one of the most difficult conferences in college gymnastics.

Athens Suddenly Becomes a Major Gymnastics Spotlight Amidst Simone Biles Discussions

No matter what Biles does, Laurent’s move has put Athens right in the middle of the Olympic conversation.

As American gymnastics prepares for Los Angeles 2028, Biles' future remains the sport's central storyline.

No comeback has been confirmed for the moment. But with Biles leaving the door open and Laurent beginning a new chapter at Georgia, the speculation of another Olympic run is only getting louder.
