The Houston Comets are coming back to the WNBA in 2027. The league has approved the sale and move of the Connecticut Sun to Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta for a record $300 million. The team will play at the Toyota Center, bringing back the franchise that won the first four WNBA titles.
Simone Biles was quick to react to the big news. She shared the WNBA's post on her Instagram Stories. Her caption was simple: "Welcome back to H-Town."

The excitement makes sense given her ties to the city. Biles was born in Ohio but raised in Spring, Texas, just outside Houston. She trained in the area her entire career and often reps the city as her own.
The original Comets were one of the eight teams that started the WNBA in 1997. They won four straight championships from 1997 to 2000. The roster featured legends like Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes, and Tina Thompson, all coached by Van Chancellor.
Sadly, the team folded in 2008 due to money troubles during the Great Recession. Now, nearly 20 years later, the Comets are getting a second life. The Toyota Center is already getting a $180 million upgrade to add WNBA locker rooms and training spaces.
The full Connecticut Sun front office will move to Houston after the 2026 season. Ownership wants to keep the classic Comets name and look. New uniforms and logos are expected to drop later in 2026, though a small trademark dispute is still being sorted out.
While the Comets gear up for their return, Biles herself may be thinking about one too.
Is Simone Biles Returning to Gymnastics Soon?
For now, Biles is not competing. She is resting her body and mind after the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her U.S. Gold Over America tour also wrapped up, and she has stepped back from the sport since.
"I haven't even watched gymnastics," she admitted in a recent chat with Olympics.com. Most of her time has gone toward supporting her husband Jonathan Owens in his NFL career. She was also in Italy for the Milano Cortina Winter Games in February.
But she is not closing the door on LA 2028 either. "Obviously, home country's hosting it, so it's going to be exciting," she said. "It'll be exciting."
