With all eyes on July 23rd, gymnastics star Georgia Godwin is ready to hit the mats at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, after bypassing a serious injury.

The 28-year-old, 8x Commonwealth medalist, will be joining forces with other established gymnasts and a rising wave of debutants as their team captain. And she didn’t shy away from sharing the grandeur of this selection.

“To be named to my third Commonwealth Games team is incredibly special,” Godwin said, per a recent NSWIS article, published on June 11.  “I’m really proud to represent Australia again, especially after everything it’s taken to get back here.”

What makes this a fairytale comeback is that at the 2024 Paris Games, Godwin’s Olympic medal dream ended after suffering an Achilles injury in May. It kept her away from international competition for 17 months.

But visibly, it couldn’t stop her comeback. She is currently tied with artistic gymnast Allana Slater for having the most Commonwealth Games medals. However, Godwin stated that she’d “like to be the most.”

While her spot in the Australian team for the Commonwealth Games is secured, Godwin also revealed her plans regarding the Olympics.

Georgia Godwin Has “Unfinished Business” at LA

The 2020 Tokyo Games had been the only Olympic destination for Godwin, as she missed the 2024 Paris Games. But moving past it, the gymnast revealed her true feelings about the upcoming 2028 LA Olympics.

“I'd love to be at LA. I have unfinished business,” she stated, as per Southern Cross’ Joanna Guelas. “But at the same time, I'm 28 now. I'm studying full-time. I've got a dog. I do the sport for myself, and it literally can be taken away from you in a split second."

And considering that she had faced the “taken away” part first-hand, it remains a question whether the world will witness Georgia Godwin in Los Angeles or not. But for now, her focus is on the Glasgow Games.

But do you think Godwin will make an Olympic comeback at LA? Let us know in the comments.
