Jessa Hansen Parker has made a truly significant impact in just two seasons at Washington, leading to an extension to train Huskies into a new era of dominance.

As reported by The Daily, Washington Athletics has signed head coach Jessa Hansen Parker for a five-year contract extension through 2031. Parker expressed her joy, saying,

“It is truly an honour and a privilege to lead these women, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue at a place as special as the University of Washington.”

Washington hired Hansen Parker in 2024 as their ninth head coach, and just after two seasons, her tenure was extended, highlighting the academic heights and fan engagement that had never been witnessed in the history of Washington.

During her debut season in 2025, she led the four gymnasts, Mary McDonough, Taylor Russon, Emily Innes, and Chelsea Hallinan, to the NCAA Championship as individual qualifiers. The momentum continued till 2026 when Lilly Tubbs earned All-Big Ten honours, and Emma Schardy was selected as the 2026 Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree.

The first year's success was followed in her second year when she led the Huskies back to the postseason, marking the 41st NCAA Regional appearance. The director of athletics, Pat Chun, also reflected on Parker's 5 Year extension.

“Coach Hansen Parker has done exceptional work leading our gymnastics program,” director of athletics Pat Chun said. “Over the past two seasons, we have watched her not only build a foundation but also lead us back to the NCAA Tournament. We are excited for the future of UW Gymnastics under her leadership.”

They are looking forward to Hansen's ability to keep building on the momentum from the previous season, and with the extension in place, the Washington Huskies head towards the next chapter of the program.

A Record of Parker's Excellence

Jessa Hansen Parker's coaching career started at UC Davis and California. Before Washington, she spent four seasons at Iowa as an assistant coach and played an instrumental role in the Hawkeyes' Big Ten championship win.

At Washington, under Hansen Parker, the Huskies had achieved the highest score of 196.575 at Cal Quad. They demonstrated their consistency by securing the most conference wins over the past five years and achieving the highest team GPA of 3.78 since 2020.

The Parker effect was also visible beyond the mat in the stands, when a record-breaking attendance of 20,886 fans was marked as they finished second in the Big Ten.

Parker has proven through her leadership that she is here to turn the momentum into a lasting legacy of success, and now eyes will be on Washington to see how they will rise under her for the next season.
