Who doesn’t want to be one of the greatest names in a certain sport and go down in history? But as it turned out, gymnastics icon Simone Biles had already chosen her successor.
The most decorated gymnast in history didn’t name an established gymnast, but Kim Kardashian’s daughter, North. As the then-toddler imitated Biles’ moves, the gymnast had a special remark about North during the 2016 Rio Games.
“Aww, that is just too cute! She totally needs a #gkSimone leo, and she’ll be my mini me!” wrote Biles on X. It was a reply to Kim’s post, which read, “North is watching @Simone_Biles in awe. She’s rolling around on the bed pretending to copy her lol.”
And fast forward to the competition, Biles gave North even more reasons to imitate her. The then 19-year-old gymnast clinched four golds in team, all-around, vault, and floor exercise, and a bronze in the balance beam.
While North clearly wanted to be the mini Biles, Kim herself didn’t fall short on the support part. The star wished Biles a “best of luck” before the competition, later on calling women’s gymnastics “amazing.”
While all of these signalled at the wholesome relationship Biles formed with Kim and her daughter, it was certainly not the end of it.
Simone Biles Wanted to Babysit North
Followed by her Rio victory in 2016, Biles made an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' show. And the gymnast revealed that she had a texting relationship with Kim, and the deed she was planning for North.
"I talked to her so I could send her daughter, aspiring gymnast North, some leos (leotards), which are in the works,” she shared. “I already texted her this morning, so that's good, and I want to babysit her daughter."
But jokes aside, Kim mentioned her daughter taking gymnastics classes in 2016, which North also confirmed in 2020. So, how much she will actually succeed in becoming the mini Biles, time will tell.
