From acrobatics to WWE, Sol Ruca showcased her dynamic agility. Now she revolutionized her WWE move by bringing her gymnastics experience into play.
Following her debut in 2022, Sol Ruca has stunned everyone in the WWE ring with her unique springboard cutter move called the “Sol Snatcher." In a recent episode of Ringer Wrestling, she shared the secret of how the move was inspired by her gymnastic roots.
“I feel like my background is pretty unique," she said. "We do have some other gymnasts in wrestling, but I just wanted something that was unique to me.”
Wanting her finisher move to be special and represent her versatility, she looked back on her gymnastics time.
“I was trying to think of something that hasn't necessarily been done before.”
Finding the perfect inspiration, she added, “I did a move in gymnastics on the bar called a straddle back, which is a release move from the high bar to the low bar.”
Now, Ruca applies the same set of techniques in the ring. She uses the ring ropes as the high bars to launch herself and then performs a mid-air rotation, like the reverse gainer, and then grabs the opponent’s head to slam them on the mat.
Being a gymnast at the University of Oregon Acrobatics and Tumbling team, Ruca used her technical bar skills to create a perfect move that helped her take down opponents in the ring, with Becky Lynch being her new victim.
Ruca's gymnastics roots have served as the perfect foundation of her WWE career, proving her past is the main reason behind her success.
Ruca's Journey from Gymnastics to WWE
Long before her wrestling career, Ruca was a standout gymnast at the Wildfire gymnastics program in California. Further, she transferred to Oregon in 2018.
Being a part of the Ducks' acrobatic and tumbling team, she helped them to secure a national championship in the synchronized pyramid individual event.
After school, due to limited opportunity, Ruca decided to move to focus on her health and posted videos about her training and fitness, which gained a lot of attention from the audience.
Her life took a turn when WWE recruiters reached out to her.
“I thought it was not real because I didn’t know how people got into WWE," Ruca told Fox News Digital.
After being encouraged by her boyfriend, she decided to take her chance. Recalling her tryout time as “one of the hardest things" she’s ever done.
Initially, she faced struggles in learning the new craft, but later, she felt it was the best decision of her life.
“I wish I would’ve been involved in WWE before, at least been a bigger fan. But now that I’m here, I’m like, this is exactly what I should be doing."
Finally seeing her vision come to life shows how her transition was actually her calling, and now she is dominating the wrestling world with her unique moves.
